I am always working on new music but I’m pretty slow. I do have 2 new CDs in the works though and hopefully they will be released in the next year.
This is a central location with blog posts about my synthesizers and guitars, as well as links to music and photos. Sorry about having to sign up to post comments but without that I get thousands of spam posts every day.
My Very first guitar was a really cheap Les Paul copy made out of plywood. I loved the Les Paul and always wanted a real one but just didn’t get around to spending the money until 2017 when I decided to go for something really nice and got a High Performance version with a Bourbon …
To Update MOTU Ultralite-AVB firmware- The REAL instructions!! I just spent a long time trying to do this because all of the instructions I found (including the ones on the MOTU firmware page) were either incomplete or inaccurate so I’m putting the real instructions here for myself or anyone else who needs them. Note this …
A couple of weeks ago a friend told me about a store I had never heard of called Solo Guitars. He said they sold kits that were really inexpensive and after my experience with the cheap Van Halen guitar I decided to check it out. I’ve always wanted an Explorer so I ordered one of …
I don’t remember how this came up but I decided to look at Van Halen guitar replicas on Aliexpress and before I knew it I had ordered one! The price was very right ($370 CDN) and I saw a few reviews that said the guitars were generally ok. Not great, but ok. But it looked …
I got this cool little Boutique synth in the VEMIA auction or 2023. It’s definitely a 90’s sounding synth but it’s capable of doing a lot of cool sounds. I wouldn’t use it for a lot of sounds in a single song unless I wanted it to sound VERY 90s but one or 2 sounds …
The Behringer 305 module is my favorite eurorack module. If I lost everything and had to start again I would get this one first. It has an amazing list of fantastic features all in one module: 4 inputs with level and pan 4 Band Parametric EQ 1/4 inch outputs Master Volume Control Standard Oscillator (A …
I know a lot of people have negative things to say about Behringer but I’m here to say their synths and modules are fantastic! I’ve had a Neutron for several years now and it’s a fantastic synth that I’d recommend to anyone, beginner or long time user. It has some unique features, is built very …
The original keyboard in my Oberheim OB-8 was kind of flimsy. It felt soft and was kind of clacky and several notes would just stop working if I left it for a few days or longer and I would have to whack them many times to get them working again. I found out that I …
New synth! Pretty cool! Behringer 2600 Gray Meanie. Pretty cool synthesizer. Sounds great, lots of cool new features. I’ll post more when I get more time with it.
Well, The REV2 sounds pretty good but it doesn’t sound like a big, fat analog synth. Close, but not quite. But this one…. wow! This is the one! This one stands with the synth giants like the OB-X and Xa and OB-8, Memorymoog, Cs-80 and CS-70M. It has a darker sound but very warm and …
I haven’t been buying synthesizers lately. I have a LOT of them now and I’m fairly happy with the variety but there is one I do like quite a lot and a new version with new features appeared recently and although it’s mostly a duplicate, it was added to my list. This past week it finally …
I waited a few years to get this one. I really wasn’t sure I needed it and now there’s an alternative from Behringer that is much cheaper so maybe that would be just as good. I don’t have one of those yet so I don’t know, but I still really wanted the real thing and …
NASA offered to send my name to mars on the next rover launching in 2020, so I did it! Wow, wordpress has really destroyed the post editor and it is now almost impossible to know what is happening when you are creating a post so this one might look very strange. I think I will …
This post might seem strange but wordpress has screwed up their interface and made it impossible to actually create new blog entries so I don’t even know what I’m doing right now. There are no lines so I can’t tell if I am typing in a field or not. I posted a new song. …
I’ve heard good things about the Dreadbox synths so when they announced the Lil’ Erebus kit I grabbed it. And I did a time lapse video of the build! It’s a pretty cool little synth. One cool thing is when you add resonance the low frequencies don’t go away like they do with most low …
I was looking through my Mixes directory the other day (well, a couple of weeks ago) and found an old song called No Hurry. I had written and recorded it in 2007 and then forgotten all about it. I had a listen and I liked it, but it needed some work. I rerecorded the bass …
One of the synthesizers I always wanted as far back as 1980 is the Moog Multimoog. I thought it would be great to have the pressure sensitive keyboard with that Moog sound. After I bought the Micromoog I kept eyeing the Multimoog sitting there at Switched On in Austin. I wasn’t really thinking about it …
Another new synthesizer has arrived. The Ensoniq VFX-Sd. This is an 80s synth and it was very much an impulse buy because I suddenly found out it has poly aftertouch and is fairly cheap. The one I got is in really good shape other than 3 buttons that aren’t working very well. The only other …
What would it sound like if a robot sang christmas carols? Wonder no more! Here it is. Loads of synths used here. OB-8, Prophet 600, Polymoog, Rev 2, Micromoog, MS-10 and more.
Well, I couldn’t resist another one. I saw it sitting in a store for many months and finally said “I better grab it!!” so now I own a 1975 Micromoog! I’ve always wanted a Multimoog and will have to get one at some point but I thought this one, although much scaled back, would probably …
